planning with a two going on three year old

My little boy is turning 3 in two days. How, oh how this is possible is really quite beyond me. My baby is not a baby anymore *sad sigh*. I've known for quite a while this punkin' is no longer a baby, but birthdays kind of smack you across the head like a 2x4 - HE'S NOT A BABY!!!!

Here are a few examples of birthday related conversations with Gavin:

Mom: "Gavin, where do you want to go when it is your birthday?"

Gavin: "I free"

Mom: "Yep, you're going to be three on your birthday. On your birthday where do you want to go?"

Gavin: "I free."

Another try, another angle:

Mom: "Gavin, what do you want to eat when it is your birthday?"

Gavin: "I want birfday cake & ice cream."

Mom: "You bet! We will have birthday cake & ice cream for dessert. What kind of real food do you want to eat?"

Gavin: "Birfday cake & ice cream."

One more try . . .

Mom: "Gavin, what do you want for your birthday?"

Gavin: "party hats & party candles."

Mom: "Oooh, party hats will be fun, and we will put candles on your cake! Great idea!!"

Wow - we might get off easy this year with candles, party hats, cake & ice cream! Not really, with a little extra prodding, and some help from Connor, we actually have a more well-rounded plan for Gavie's big day which I look forward to sharing sometime post birthday. Connor, is looking forward to singing "Happy Birthday." I'm anticipating a fun day!!

Even though no longer a baby-baby, Gaver is thankfully still little, cuddly, busy, obstinant, cheery, sassy, compassionate, an antagonist to his brother, and everything else in between, and oh, how I LOVE this little boy! Life with a well-spoken little boy can be quite interesting, and it is conversations like these that remind me that although my baby is no longer a baby, he is still innocently very little.
